Yoga, rafting and the Ganga at sunset
The yoga capital of the world, on the banks of the Ganga where the river leaves the Himalayan foothills. Rishikesh has ghats, ashrams and cafés, and the white-water rafting is some of the best in India. The core of the town is vegetarian and alcohol-free, and the evening aarti at Triveni Ghat is the most atmospheric hour of the day.
Getting around. The two suspension bridges, Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula, are on foot or two-wheeler only. Auto-rickshaws and shared taxis cover the rest, and rafting trips leave from the camps upstream.
