Your expert’s note

Do not plan on stopping for photos inside - the only legal pull-ins are outside the portals, and the real payoff is beyond the north portal at Sissu where the Lahaul valley opens up. Between November and April check the Manali-Atal Tunnel highway status the morning you travel, because the road can be shut even when the tunnel itself is fine.
