The best view is free and takes ten minutes - the NH-6 roadside viewpoint on the Guwahati-Shillong drive, which is why it works better as a scheduled stop on the transfer than as a separate outing from Shillong. If you want boating, go in the morning, since the water gets choppy and the light flattens by mid-afternoon.
