The earthquake-damaged ChristChurch Cathedral in the square is still under active reinstatement as of 2026: stabilisation work is complete, but full restoration is being delivered in stages under the "Re:Opening" plan, with the first stage (nave, tower and the western Rose Window) not expected until around 2030 - so expect hoardings and scaffolding rather than a finished cathedral.
